A ham radio operator with an ambiguous job in "computers" receives a strange message on his radio one evening where he hears a man calling for help and screaming, followed by an eerie song with strange voice. He then proceeds to "run the frequencies through the computer" to somehow triangulate where the origin of the signal came from (remember, this is 1988...so he's working magic here). He and his girlfriend then travel to an old, abandoned house where they find another ham radio set up by a guy, his sisters, and a boyfriend. Their cause for being in an abandoned home with a ham radio is perhaps the biggest mystery of this film, with the exception of when a ham radio is used by 'remote' late in the film (watch for when one of the women is trapped in the house, yet manages to call for help using the radio in the RV parked outside). The special effects budget is used up in the first 5 minutes of the movie, however there are some entertaining uses of balloons that give the appearance of 'expanding' glass before it breaks. The movie borrows heavily from the Poltergeist movies, especially the creepy clown - the one in this movie is a pretty cheap prop by comparison. This is definitely one of those movies that will have you saying: "WHAT are you DOING!? Don't go in there AGAIN, you idiot!". Nearly everything the characters do requires a special kind of stupid, and by the time they meet their fates, it seems almost deserved. This is a good one for making fun of. The climax is poorly executed which will cause looks of disbelief, and the final ending is unintentionally comedic, putting a great cap on a really bad movie.
