Making a sequel to the Fly has a lot of opportunity given that the first movie left us with the unanswered question about what happened to the potential for a baby fly. Stolz is a good pick for lead given his experience with facial makeup from Mask. This sequel knows its roots, and tries to work in a fair amount of continuity with the prequel, even showing a scene of Goldblum on video at one point. The writers should have done more to make the young Brundlefly convincing as he grows up in a vacuum from normalized society - it seems incredibly unlikely that he could pull off an affair with a young woman at the age of five regardless of the mostly-adequate attempt at explaining his rapid development. The first hour of the film is tough to get through, but if you can hang on, things start to get more entertaining. Until then, the movie sort of feels like a repeat of the same plot as before. The special effects budget is saved for the second half, and the viewer is rewarded for patience. There are some fun scenes of the fully formed fly creeping around, while things turn into more of a slasher movie as it hunts people down one by one. The ending was not satisfying and was inconsistent with the tone of the prequel, which puts the overall film in the "serviceable sequel" category, but not a must see. Usually, sequels are not as good as the predecessor, and the Fly II follows this conventional wisdom.

Not as good as the first one with Goldblum.

The inevitable sequelitis follow up to Cronenberg's masterpiece with Eric Stolz and Daphne Zuniga. Rather campy and over the top in parts but gives some closure to the Brundlefly project. Like the first film, it's not for the squeamish - also contains a very heart-wrenching scene involving the main character and a dog.

I loved this movie. It's not real, but keeps you on the edge of your seat. The first one is great to.
