Sinbad plays wisecracking Secret Service agent Sam Simms, assigned to protect the President's rebellious 14-year-old son Luke (THE MIGHTY DUCKS' Brock Pierce). Simms would much rather be protecting the President, and Luke ... more »would prefer to be just a regular kid without a watchdog trailing him everywhere he goes. But a genuine friendship develops between the two when Simms volunteers to teach Luke how to deal with a school bully (HOME IMPROVEMENT'S Zachery Ty Bryan), and to untie his tongue so that he can win over a cute girl in class. But when Luke's mysterious Internet buddy convinces him to ditch his bodyguard in a crowded mall, the fun and games suddenly become a matter of life and death! The votes are in from both audiences and critics -- "Sinbad is hilarious" (KNX Radio/CBS Radio) in this "laugh-a-minute" comedy (Sneak Previews).« less
This is a very funny comedy which you can watch with the children. There are a couple of scenes they will need to turn around for due to violence, but it is otherwise a great family-friendly movie with entertainment for both adults and children.
It is a little dated (as witnessed by Sinbad's workout clothing, which is reminiscent of M.C. Hammer in his hey day), but I highly recommend this movie.

Sinbad is sinfully good in great Disney flick!

"I am sure we were all dubious when we learned that the comic stylings of Sinbad were to be put on parade in what seemed like a formulaic Disney live action film. This has never been Disney's strong suit, as such films as 'No Deposit No Return' testify to. However, First Kid turned out to be a delightful romp through the lives of America's first family. This is a great movie for families, and in a world where violence and strong languange seem 'flagrante vous etu fei', isn't this enough to warrant purchasing this awesome film? The answer, surprisingly, is perhaps. I give it five stars, despite the obvious four stars I gave it before I wrote this.Thank you and God Bless America."

"Honestly, not a best effort by either Disney or Sinbad. A semi-cute movie intended for an audience of 10-12 year olds who like comedies and enjoy other Disney flicks."
Awesome comedy!

"Just seeing the name of this great movie brings back a great memory from 1996. At the age of 18, even though I was officially an adult, thanks to being a member of the Fox Kids Club in my area as a kid, I was able to win free tickets to see a prescreening of First Kid because I knew Sinbad's name. My girlfriend on one side and a good friend on the other, we had to travel an hour to get to the theater where the prescreening took place, but if there was ever a movie worth an hour's travel, First Kid is the one! I still remember the loud chorus of laughter, particularly when Sinbad got the bully back with the huge spitwad, and the rest of the movie had no lack of great moments either. First Kid is delightfully funny, but at the same, it has a lot of feel good moments to it, and I truly feel for anyone who hasn't seen it. Great music, great times, great entertainment for all! With First Kid, you just can't go wrong!"
Good flick!

"First Kid is yet another Sinbad laugh-riot. It's not as funny as Houseguest, but First Kid is nevertheless worth a look.Sinbad stars as a Secret Service agent assigned to look after the Luke, the juvenile son of the president of the United States. Sinbad attends grammar school with Luke, to ensure the Luke's safety.Anyway, several of the other kids pick on Luke because they think Luke is a snobby punk. E.g., in one of the scenes, Zachary Ty Bryan (from Home Improvement) shot a spitball through a straw, hitting Luke in the head. However, Sinbad got even with Zachary - he later shot a huge spitball (about as big as a mini-basketball) through a huge tube at Zachary. It hit Zachary in the face, nearly knocking him out of his seat! I almost lost it when I watched that scene! It was gut-bustingly funny! That scene alone is worth the price of this DVD!"
