"I tried this dvd for the first time today. I had previewed it and was expecting to struggle a lot with the footwork. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I had few problems following the steps. I have been using the dvds for the Transfirmer the past 3 months and have all of the footwork for those dvds down. So if you have been using the Transfirmer series, this would be a good one to add to your collection. I don't have the step used in this dvd, but used my transfirmer step in the incline position when needed. I also used the green 6 inch portion of the step for the step sequences. It worked great.
I like the 30 minute length of this dvd - it's a fast paced, intense workout. I had a good sweat going by the end of it. I consider myself to be a fit, intermediate exerciser. I used 3 pounds weights and think I'll stick with that for a while. I had a few fumbles with the footwork at times, but was able to get back in step quickly. I expect that the first time I do a new step workout. I thought the instructor cued well. The Firm instructors are top notch and she was no exception. Other reviewers have described the activities of the dvd well, so I won't go into that.
The 30 minutes went by quickly and I really enjoyed the workout. This will be a regular in the rotation for quite a while."
More from the Tricky Footwork Era

"The Firm had a series that used what some people refer to as "The Death Box" and this is one of them. From what I can tell from those I own, the sound quality of the production was not as good as in the past or in the future and I often find it difficult to hear the instructor's cues, in large part because the music competes.
This delivers a good cardio workout, but it's another of those that has the complex footwork that I struggle to learn, despite having virtually every Firm workout they've made. I suppose in the name of providing a quick, intense cardio workout, there is no instruction for what I find the complicated steps. As a result, it'll either take you a few uses of the routine to nail it or, if you're [...] like me and insist on being able to master the footwork before moving on, you can wind up with a marathon workout.
I substitute my Transfirmer (more recent era and still sold as of July, 2007 at Amazon, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods or Firm Direct for the box (step with narrow fold up and down legs) and it works just fine. A Reebok Step would also substitute nicely.
Had the sound quality been better and the routine not quite so frustrating, I'd have probably given this one a 5. Once mastered, it does seem to be one of the few Firm workouts that is short - and the use of weights more for increased cardio intensity than sculpting (especially if you're used to using heavy weights).

Great short workout!

"I have been using this workout for a few months now. It is a great workout on the days you can't or don't want to take an hour or more to excercise. It incoprorates fun challenging cardio with great strenght training compound moves - you will works every muscle. I really enjoyed the moves that require balance -great for your core strenght. There is no ab workout just a few standing moves at the end but your abs still get worked.
There is no excuse not to do this workout - it's only 30 min! I do understand when other people have said this is to short but a short intense workout is better than nothing. I use my Transfirmer and it works great. I up the step aerobics intensity by using the taller box and I use heavier weights when I can.
My only complaints are that the instructor is hard to hear at times and the cueing is terrible - really awful, but it is so much fun and once you learn the patterns it becomes almost a non issue. I would recommend this workout to any average physically fit person. Great for moms with little time for excercise!!!
