Preschoolers know what THEY like!

"To contrast the other less-than-favorable reviews, I had to add my "thumbs up" rating for this superbly educational tape from the Sesame Street folk. Long being an admirer of the cute Muppet known as "Elmo", I couldn't wait to watch this one with my four-year-old niece and her two-year-old brother. Both kids are totally captivated by Elmo's informative and entertaining "lessons" on animals in the wild. Elmo is definitely a kid favorite. The creators of this lovable character realize that his wide-eyed enthusiasm and infectious laugh are the perfect blend to tap into the innocence and curiosity of children. The late Michael Jeter is also on hand as the childlike "Mr. Noodles" who also knows a thing or two about engaging little minds. All children are different and while a few may be "frightened" by the big bad wolf, I can assure you that my two young relatives found nothing terrifying at all in this wonderful tape."
Ok, but can be scary to some kiddos!

"My soon to be 1yr old LOVES Elmo and we bought this b/c he loves animals as well - which this DVD does cover very well. BUT in the "Wild Animals" section, there is an appearance of the Big Bad Wolf that totally scared the crap out of my son! Even watching the part leading up to it freaks him out. So we have to completely skip the "Wild Animals" section, which is a bit of a waste of "movie time". He's normally pretty brave, but just a head's up in case your kid's at that "unfamiliar things are scary stage"."
Too Scary for Toddlers

"My 16 month old LOVES Elmo and Sesame Street so I was very surprised at his reaction to this DVD. When the Big Bad Wolf blew away Prairie Dawn and the camera, he started screaming and crying and climbing all over me (like the wolf was "getting him"). I try to remember to fast-forward past this part but sometimes forget. He knows the scene is coming several scenes before and climbs in my lap for protection. This comes from a child who has NEVER been frightened by anything on TV.
Also, my 2 1/2 year old neice was afraid of the very scary tornado in the weather segment. This DVD may be appropriate for older childrn, but definitely not for toddlers."
Wolf scared my son

"My son loves Elmo and has every Elmo's world made. I bought this one as soon as I saw it. My son loves animals and I thought this would be his favorite Elmo video. Unfortunately, the scene with the big bad wolf can be frightening, as the other review says. My son cried (at 15 months) when the big bad wolf came on too. I tried a couple of times and he cried each time. I had to put this video away and will probably try it again in 6 months or so."

"Our 18 month old loves this DVD. He is not scared at the section with the big bad wolf at all - maybe because he is too young for the Little Red Riding Hood stories. We have several Elmo DVD's and this one is much easier on our ears than some of the others. I have to admit that the "wiggle" song is actually quite catchy - don't be surprised if you catch yourself singing it!"
