If you own the Dvd's, these new Blu-ray sets being released are most definitely worth the upgrade. And the price tag is much less than purchasing the individual Dvds as well, so these sets are a great initiation point for a blossoming collector. These contain all the extras released on the original releases, plus a whole slew of new ones (although I get the sense that a few select extras are being shunted to the seasons where they make better sense for viewing.) Also PDFs of the scripts, Radio Times articles, and production documentation are to be found on each disc.

Many of the newly remastered episodes have updated special effects included, as well as 5.1 mixes. Obviously the source material was not High Definition. This is the best you'll get though. Feel free to zoom in for wide screen viewing and you'll notice a big difference from the Dvds right there. Many deleted scenes included, and also raw studio footage with multiple takes of many scenes, which can be quite amusing, listening to the antics and conversations in between proceedings. Peter Davison's era of Doctor Who brought hard core science fiction to the table, as well as an upgraded budget. Some of these sets are a real labor of love for the production teams, and what they achieved in the early eighties is often breathtaking.
