The description on the jacket says it all. Sexual manipulation, amoral. Thankfully there's very little bad language.

Builds Off the First, Ignores the Second, Add New Direction

"First there was Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Choderlos De Laclos. Then there was Dangerous Liaisons in 1988. This was followed by Valmont in 1989. We then had Cruel Intentions in 1999 which moved the story to high school age. This was followed by a retelling in Cruel Intentions 2 that should just be ignored. Then there was the mega epic Les Liaisons Dangereuses in 2003 (more than 3 hours). Finally we have Cruel Intentions 3 (2004) that acts as a direct sequel to Cruel Intentions by adding a cousin and then sets the tale at a very bizarre college.
Cassidy is a cousin of the characters from the first movie. She and tease-object Jason like to play games. The games start quick and fast as it almost seems like everyone is out to do in someone else. There is no virginal target in this one. That has been replaced with a faithful target (but definitely not a virgin). Oddly, she is the target of a third character named Patrick. Eventually the games of Cassidy, Jason, and Patrick do become dangerous (as well as cruel).
Unlike the first movie, however, while Cassidy is quite a snob, there is none of the evil cultured grace of the first film. These characters could have been anybody from any background. While the added Patrick dimension added a little originality it failed to make up for the loss of the evil cultured grace. I just hope we won't be seeing number 4."
Big Suprise.

"I like everyone else thought that the first Cruel Intentions was genius and that nothing could top it. When I saw the pathetic second installment, I just reminded myself that it was a shot down pilot for the spin-off TV show "Manchester Prep" which never made it to FOX television, surprisingly enough. So then, I was like, "Oh, that's why it sucked". What made it worse is that they actually had identical dialogue from the first movie. How creative. When I was picking out DVDs on Columbia House (no plug intended) I spotted Cruel Intentions 3. I was like "they made a 3???" I saw Kerr Smith on the front and I was like "Ok, Kerr, I trust that you won't let me down seeing that you were excellent on Dawson's Creek (not intended to be a plug for TBS either), so I bought the movie. WOW!! Was I surprised. This movie is almost more twisted than the first one. Kristina Anapau as Cassidy is even better than Sarah Michelle Gellar's Kathryn, which is one difficult task. As for Kerr Smith, this is a new side that I have never seen, but like. I don't think I've cracked up that much since the first one. Smith's character Jason is plainly diabolical, and I loved every minute of it. I strongly recommend this to anyone who loved the first one and wants to lifted from the ashes of the second one. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. Oh yea, Nathan J. Wetherington as Patrick is excellent also. Very suprised that the acting was above par. Way to go!"
There's A Third?

"First there was the Cruel Intentions with Sarah Michelle, Ryan, and Reese. Then came prequel Cruel Intentions 2 with two fairly unknown actors. Now there is Cruel Intentions 3. Cruel Intentions 3 is about Cassidy, Jason, and Patrick. They love to play games with other people for their own amusement. The film begins with a bet between Jason Argyle played by the beautiful Kerr Smith and Patrick Bales played by the handsome Nathan Wetherington. They want to see who can be the first one to bed the woman of each's choice. Later they compete for Cassidy Merteuil played by the stunning Kristina Anapau. There is more characters in this film whose relationships intertwine throughout and the sex is more intense than the first(expect about 6 or so scenes). Shot in sunny California instead of New York, helps give the film its own 'feel'. It does a good job of trying to be original and creative from both previous films. The story is entertaining and definately much better than the second film. I think the reason why its more enjoyable is its a bit more glamerous. It seems to have had a bigger budget and also the people are gorgeous. Also there is fantastic music all throughout the movie which sets the mood perfectly. All the actors are so great for their parts. They all nail it especially Anapau's role as Cassidy. She-dare I say it-outdoes Sarah Michelle Gellar. The film is completely different from the other two in terms of style and vibe. This movie is meant to be fun and campy and would be great to watch casually with friends. I strongly recommend this film if you enjoyed either Cruel Intentions 1 or 2."

"Yesterday, i was in a DVD store when i ran into this. As i had enjoyed the first movie quite a lot (and despite the second one which was awful) i decided to buy Cruel Intentions 3. Back home, i sat on my coach and started to watch... After 5 minutes, i was already wondering why on earth i had spent money on such rubbish.
This movie has nothing in common with the first one or the second one. It's the story of Katherine Merteuil's cousin, Cassidy (which doesn't have the class of Katherine and dresses more like a hooker), and of a friend of hers, Jason (played by Kerr Smith, seen in Dawson's Creek). Bye bye the luxurious mansions and appartments in New York and the picnics in Central Park... The story is here set in California, under the palm trees. The characters are sticky, insipid and unclassy. The movie goes in every direction. There are no surprises at all, everything is clear from the beginning.
It's the very first time i'm so dissapointed by a DVD i buy (and i have quite a lot...).
Do NOT buy this ! It's worth nothing !!!!!"
Its just ....ok

"The first "Cruel Intentions" was highly underrated. There was a strong chemistry within the cast (obviously since Reese & Ryan married!) and the characters weren't one dimensional. Even evil Kathryn was capable of pain that Sarah Michelle Gellar managed to convey in brief moments which was perfect for that character. But Cassidy for CI3 falls way short of being three dimensional. She's just cruel for the whole film and showed no weakness. Everyone has a weakness. However, I will say that the character Patrick somewhat intrigued me. He went beyond the game of cruelty and ...well, I won't give away what happens, but I was very disturbed by it. As for Kerr, he was alright. Its not his fault his character was kind of dull. Anyway, the film is "ok". Its worth watching if you run into it on cable, but I wouldn't buy the movie."
