"This film has a good idea for an action filled western--but where is it? The actors in this are just average at best and the action scenes are poorly made. The lack of any great actors is evident and the battle shoot out parts appear real fake. I have seen a lot of westerns filmed during the 1950s to 1960s that are much better than this one. "CONVICT STAGE is the type of movie that used to be offered as part of a 1960s double-feature, especially at drive in theaters.
SYNOPSIS--
Ben Lattimore's sister is killed in a stagecoach robbery and he swears revenge. While pursuing the two Simes brothers who are members of the involved gang, Ben is shot by their "Ma." His girlfriend nurses Ben back to health and he promises to give up the vigilante crusade. But when he learns the brothers have been captured, Ben approaches the stagecoach that Marshal Karnin is transporting them in. Rather than take the law into his own hands, Ben decides to ride alongside the coach as protection against the rest of the gang, who are still on the loose. But neither he nor the Marshal know that Ma Simes is also a passenger.
Also from the same year and with a similar cast is FORT COURAGEOUS, which was undoubtedly the other half of that double-feature!
