Our racers are back for a second cannonball run - the illegal race that takes place all over the country... Almost every star of the first film is here, along with new ones. Will J.J. McClure (Burt Reynolds) finally be the... more » winner this time?« less
"I love these cannonball movies. They sure don't make them like this anymore. Stunt man turned director Hal Needham (Smokey & The Bandit) has done just as an amazing job of casting this movie as he did with the first. Returning from the first CB movie is Burt Reynolds as J.J McClure and Dom DeLuise as Victor with the alter ego of Captain Chaos. Just by reading who is cast in this movie is unbelievable...
- Burt Reynolds (Smokey and the bandit)
- Dom DeLuise (Many Mel Brooks films)
- Frank Sinatra (Rat Pack)
- Dean Martin (Rat Pack)
- Sammy Davis. Jr. (Rat Pack)
- Jamie Far (Clinger/M*A*S*H)
- Marilu Henner (Taxi)
- Telly Savalas (The Dirty Dozen)
- Susan Bach (Daisy/Dukes Of Hazzard)
- Jackie Chan (Shakespeare in love)
- Shirley MacLaine (Around the world in 80 days)
- Tony Danza (Who's the boss)
- Jim Nabors (Gomer Pile)
- The guy who played Jaws in the Bond films... and many, many more
The movie is great, just as great as the first one. Some people will dismiss it because they don't like to watch a great cast of actors having fun. Or they're too focused on their favourite actor who is not the star of this film. For me, it's a classic, one of the best sequels ever made and a 4 star movie in my book.
However, where there is good praise at first comes the bad news. Unlike the first DVD for Cannonball run, this one has been totally ignored by Warner. There is nothing about this DVD that makes it stand out or make it worth replacing that old VHS copy. The quality is not really good; it has speckles in many places, noticeable ones. The sound is a bit shoddy now and then. There is no bonus features, no nothing: Just the movie. Not even subtitles where included. There is nothing at all but a menu with a picture of the image on the cover, and 2 options to play the movie or select a scene: Not even a trailer.
I love this movie, so I had to get it no matter what it had included with it. But for those of you who like a good reason to buy a DVD `cause of some nice bonus goodies, then this one will leave you sore. They could have at least got Hal to do a commentary track like the first one. And the deleted scene Hal talks about on the 1st movies commentary of Burt and Shirley's heart warming special scene they wanted to do.
If you like the movie, you might be a bit disappointed in the shoddy VHS looking image quality, lack of bonus features, And in full screen only. Still, it's at a good enough price for it to not matter."
DISGUSTINGLY AWFUL QUALITY DVD!

"All comments about the film aside, whether you love it or hate it, I have to say this is the worst DVD I ever bought. No extras. The print of the movie is poor, grainy. And it's not even in widescreen. It's an obvious video transfer. Very disappointing. On the other hand the movie is dire. But this is a good thing. Canonball Run 2, along with its predecessor has kitch value. I mean Daisy from the Dukes of Hazard in a spandex jumpsuit?! That's worth the price of admission alone."
This movie has CannonBALLS!

"This is a hilarious movie about a cross-country road race. Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise make a perfect pair as an egotistical playboy and an insecure fat man. Together, they pair up with a duo of fake nuns and pursue the million dollar jackpot that awaits them in Connecticut. This is a pretty tame movie, except for the grotesque moment in which hot stud Burt has to make out with grandma psychic, Shirley McClaine! Even worse, Marilu Henner, a hottie since her days on Taxi, wants to jump in the back seat with...DOM DELUISE!!!EEEEWWWWWWWW!If you can move past the horrible romantic pairings, then check out the rest of this movie, which is actually pretty funny. The original Rat Pack shows up (including Frank, sans Jerry and Joey, thank heavens)for a cameo, and the soundtrack boasts a theme from Menudo. That's right - Menudo! If you don't believe me, just buy this movie and see for yourself! Luckily, Ricky Martin did not include the theme on his later albums, but that's for the music department to discuss. One thing that really irked me though - even though it's a cross-country race, the movie which was shot entirely in Tucson, AZ, never seems to LEAVE Tucson! You can tell by looking at the mountins in the background. Or better yet - check out the ending credits, which admits it was shot entirely in Tucson. I guess Dom wanted the cast and crew to stick around for all the great tasting Mexican food we serve here! By the way - I was drunk when I watched this movie."
Poor transfer but worth adding to your collection

"There are no extras on this DVD. Outtakes for this one have always been in the ending credits though. The transfer to DVD is very poor, but since it available for such a low price you might as well add it to your collection, since I don't think there is enough public demand for a "Cannonball Run II: Special Edition DVD" anytime soon."
A truly terrible film, but impossible to turn away from!

"Alright folks, come clean. I know there are secret fans out there of this ridiculous mess that killed the popularity of Burt Reynolds, despite the fact that it was, improbably, a hit. Unfunny and overlong, it still remains a mystery as to why watching all these big stars make fools of themselves is a pleasure. At that price, why not add it to your DVD collection?"
