Interesting start to only go downhill quickly. Avoid!

I was pleasantly surprised at this movie. I figured it would be another raunchy sex movie or one with a lot of dumb jokes, but it was actually very good and funny. No, it will never win an Oscar, but it did have some great jokes and funny scenes. My favorite was the Cling Wrap scene.

"This movie is certainly not Hollywood at its finest, but it's still a very funny movie with a ton of great, witty dialogue. Jamie Foxx delivers some of the funniest movie quotes of the '90's, and he plays his role to perfection. The scene at the chinese restaurant is one of my favorite comedy moments of the decade. And that's all I have to say about that."
Hilarious and smart, an underrated movie destined to be a cl

"I didn't expect to like Booty Call. On the surface it seemed like just another ghetto comedy, however, it's actually a clever sex farce that shows African-Americans in a positive light. In between the raunchy jokes there are some great messages in this intelligent story about safe sex and relationships between African-Americans.
The plot is simple: Rushon, a guy who is in a relationship with a girl for seven weeks hasn't been able to get any. So he recruits his buddy Bunz to go out on a double date with him with her next door neighbor Listerine. After a dinner of Scrimp fried rice at the Chinese restaurant they play some cards and a hilarious game of footsie under the table-one thing leads to another and...The guys have to go to the store to buy some condoms. $38.00 overspent at a Chinese store for lamsbskin condoms and some hilarious Yo-Yo jokes later it's back to the cribs and after some wickedly funny impressions from Jamie Foxx one thing leads to another...Unfortunately the condoms are lambskin, no good for safe sex. Back to the store again for latex condoms. The Chinese store is closed, but the Arab store cross-town is open 24 hours. They get the condoms but the killer the dog has to go for a walk...A dog chase later and one thing leads to another...it's back to the store for plastic wrap. More gags about a white robber and back to the crib for a nearly fatal Saran wrap disaster. The guys get tired of the blocking and decide to go home. Trying to hail a cab, the guys run into a paranoid cab driver. Dude drops his gun and bolts out of his cab. Rushon gets shot. Nothing serious just needs some stitches. A farcical trip to the hospital to get those stitches will leave you in stitches. After having to put up with so much Davidson's character finally gets some. Bunz on the other hand...Well, you'll have to see the DVD to find out what happens with him.
Tommy Davidson gives a solid straight man performance and Jamie Foxx steals scenes a Bunz, the happy go lucky buddy always looking for a good time. His best scene is where he does the impressions. Foxx's take on Dr. King's "Free at last" is hilarious! Tamala Jones is solid as Davidson's love interest Viveca A. Fox is a hoot as Listerine, the middle class woman with the freak inside her.
Creatively Booty Call is an innovative film destined to be a classic in the future. It's very rare to see African-American comedians tackle different comedy styles like dark comedy and farcical comedy in a movie and do it so well; normally I have to watch white movies like Heathers and Clockwatchers to see that type of humor utilized. The entire cast has a great script to work with featuring solid one-liners that play to the actors' strengths. Davidson has room to be straight, while Foxx has time to ad-lib and do his thing, impressions. Even Tamala Jones and Viveca Fox get jokes in this movie. It's the sign of a top quality black movie when the women have fully developed characters that are the equal of their male counterparts. So many black films forget about the sisters; I'm so glad the producers of this film treated them with respect this time.
Booty Call is a Shawn James Five Star essential Video. Pick this on up with How U Like Me now for a great at home African-American romantic comedy double feature. Both these movies are side splittingly funny while making statements about life in the black community.

"This would be your average "brothas gotta git some" stereotypical comedy of errors (see "Two Can Play That Game") but Jamie Foxx, damn that man. He's one of the funniest comics alive today, and that's no exaggeration. I love the guy's shtick and the "Bunz" character, which is 100% Jamie Foxx, just makes this a fun romp. I've heard some complaints about the DVD release of this (which I don't own) so be forewarned, the DVD could be a load of rubbish. Don't buy the DVD! There, I've done my public service announcement. Now read the rest of my review. Fortunately, I had the pleasure of watching this on VHS a few years back. I honestly don't remember laughing so hard in my life. And 99% of the time I was laughing at Bunz. The other characters, Lysterine (Vivica A. Fox), Rashon (Tommy Davidson) and Nikki (Tamala Jones) are just window dressing. Foxx simply steals every scene he's in. With the exception of the angry lady scene and Bernie Mac's HILARIOUS cameo, oh, and of course, the blatantly stereotypical convenience store clerks, they are just there to act as foils for the impossibly funny Bunz. You know, instead of that big butt on the movie sleeve, they should have put Jamie Foxx's face on the cover. Anyway, minor spoilers ahead. These are my favorite scenes. The Chinese restaurant! Bunz exchange with the waiter, Bunz speaking Chinese (he learned it from watching Kung Fu movies with...ah, I won't even spoil the joke!)Bunz doing impressions spot on of William Shatner and Martin Luther King while er...you'll see!Bottom line: Jamie Foxx is a genius. Don't mind the critics who pass this off as sophomoric. Well, of course it is! But like the editorial review says, it's funny. This will most likely become a cult classic now that Foxx's career is starting to really take off."

"Man, this movie has got to be one of the best I have ever seen. I constantly quote this movie to my friends and vice versa. Especially parts like "Yo Yo later I'll dip it in some of that soy sauce." and also "Lysterine? That's muthaf---in' mouthwash." And you too can be a part of this game when you purchase this movie. Just think of having complete strangers come up to you, asking you to say for them, "I was just wonderin' if the young buck in the back fetches and rolls over too cuz he begs as good as hell"...Ahh yes..."
Very funny ;-)

"Sure, this isn't Oscar material, but it is very funny. I saw it years and years ago, and yesterday picked up a copy for under $10 at the mall so I grabbed it. I laughed as much as I did back then.
There is plenty of humour, raunch and mishaps here. Jamie Foxx about steals the show and Vivica A Fox is the set up for him. Each dislikes each other at the start, but soon things heat up. His best friend is finally gonna get to sleep with his seven week girlfriend and he can't wait. The hilarity starts up when everyone's about to start getting it on and problems keep cropping up.
To me, the two funniest parts is the scene at the restaurant with Jamie speaking Chinese and the scene under the table with the dog. You are not getting Disney here so be warned - but you are getting under an hour and a half of fun. This is cute and extremely light. No thinking required."
