"I bought this, honestly, as a joke. I thought it looked so funny, I had to add it to my "bad videos" collection. In fact, I bought all Amira Mor ones.
So I popped in the cardio one. I was impressed--you do need to know how to shimmy, but I love drills and this is great for it.
And then I popped in this one. While geared towards a higher beginner/low intermediate dancer, Amira does talk about some veil wraps that are pretty interesting even for a more seasoned dancer. She teaches a very cute routine, including veil, standing, and floor work, and manages to teach it in a dignified, modest way. You can take from it as you wish and make it more exotic, you can take it and make it more modest; the routine really gives you a base and you can add your own flair to it.
I gave it a four because the set design in the back, for me, was distracting--a bit too veily and almost implying an Indian style bed.
But for those beginner and early intermediate dancers who want a solid choreography, or those dancers of other genres who want something fun to try out Friday night, I recommend this DVD--I was pleasantly surprised.
Amira's voice is distracting at first, breathy and accented, but you learn to like it rather quickly. She is really enjoying the dance, she is a good strong instructor, and"

"I thought, "well, the cover looks great, and a review was o.k, so it must be something I would be interested in". Boy was I disappointed! I have been bellydancing for 3 years...and too be honest I couldn't stop shaking my head. The picture was awful...I thought her veil unwrapping looked terrible, and as for her instruction, it was rushed, and not very discriptive at all. I thought she looked ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend this video at all. Learn basic moves and you could do a better job at seduction all on your own. Save your money!"

"Amira Mor is very inspiring, and you make rapid progress with these videos. Though you get a workout, it's not just about fitness, it's about belly dance, the art form. Each of them works on a different theme. The "soul" one is about control, focus and grace. I love the workout in the cardio video. I got the first five videos and did one of the videos every day for a month -- and now can do an advanced class, no problem!"

"Amira Mor's teaching/dancing style is very "Oriental". It is clear she comes from the more traditional "I dance, You follow" teaching mode. Read- not choreography. Though she does teach choreography in this video, one gets the feeling that this is not her strong point. Her style of dance comes across as more improvisational than choreographed. It will look very different to one that is used to the more disciplined/ more controlled/ more polished western styles. Keep in mind that this dance is/was traditionally performed as pure improvisation. If choreography is your bag, keep looking, there are better resources. If you want a taste of more traditional "danse oryantal", give Amira Mor a try."
