Belgravia On the eve of the Battle of Waterloo two young lovers forge a legacy that will create scandal for generations to come. Years later, when the humble Trenchards (Tamsin Greig and Philip Glenister) move to Belgravia, they find themselves mixing with the venerated Brockenhursts (Harriet Walter and Tom Wilkinson). The families share a history that threatens inheritances and reputations; and there are those who would do anything to ensure secrets remain buried. Pride and loyalty will be tested, as forbidden love blossoms amongst the rivalry and lives hang in the balance. This 6-part drama is adapted by Julian Fellowes from his bestselling novel and features a stellar ensemble cast which also includes Jack Bardoe, Alice Eve, James Fleet, Tara Fitzgerald, Bronagh Gallagher, Richard Goulding, Diana Hardcastle, Adam James, Ella Purnell, Saskia Reeves and Paul Ritter. REVIEW: I expected good things from Belgravia as Julian Fellowes adapted his own novel to this miniseries. You will definitely catch the flavor of Downton Abbey, but Fellowes has gone beyond that series. This has a carrying on plot slowly revealed to viewers as well as characters in the story that carries on throughout the entire six episode work. The cinematography, historical location ambiance, costuming, dialogue, and the stellar cast are all components of what helps make this a step above Fellowes' other small screen endeavors. As I stated, I expected it to be good, but I found the acting to be GREAT. The story not so much. SDH SUBTITLES provided for all who enjoy or need them. With the worthwhile bonus, you receive about five hours of entertainment. I'd return to watch this series again before I'd do that for any Downton Abbey season. It's worth every penny. |
