Classic American TV with a wholesome plotline but becomes a bit dull and repetitive at times.

Who doesn't like the Andy Griffith show? Aunt Bea makes the whole program, not to mention Don Knots. I love seeing those old cars. It was a more simple time with simple problems, but Andy Griffith handles them all with wisdom and a steady hand. It's refreshing to watch. No stress, no pounding heart from the drama of a shoot-out or a bloody but improbable injury. The expression of good values on tv seems to have fallen by the wayside -- Andy can bring that back into your home.

(5 out of 5 stars)
"This is a great DVD, with only one let down. The let down was that they took out the Original Whistling Theme Song. But other than that the picture quality is just a good as the picture quality on TV LAND. This is a great DVD, and it is worth it to buy this DVD. SYNOPSIS ---- "Class Reunion" - Andy Rekindles An Old Flame. "Opie And The Spoiled Kid" - Opie Becomes Friends With A Rich Kid. "Aunt Bee's Medicine Man" - Aunt Bee Gets "Tipsy" On Indian Elixir. "Andy's English Valet" - Andy's Personal Servant Is Driving Him Nuts. "Rafe Hollister Sings" - Andy Discover Rafe's Talent. "Andy Discovers America" - Opie Puts Andy's History Knowledge To The Test. "The Darlings Are Coming" - Charlene Sets Her Country Cap For Andy. "Mountain Wedding" - Ernest T. Plots To Stop Charlene's Wedding. These 8 Episodes Are Eight Of The Best I Have Ever Seen. THE DVD DETAILS: Number Of Discs: 1 --- Languages/Sound: English/Dolby Digital --- Bonus Content: Scene Access, Cast Bios, Aunt Bee's Secret Family Recipes, Mayberry Music Videos, Mayberry Art Gallery, and Mayberry Tidbits. Not really a "best of"

"Like another reviewer said, this DVD isn't really a "best of" collection. It's a collection of eight episodes from the 1963 season. The episodes look fine, but nothing special. There were no real enhancements to the video or audio. It looks just like it does on television. And the menu is VERY basic. Not a whole lot of time was spent developing this DVD.The worst part is the lack of the original theme music. Yes, you could say that the actual show is the most important part. But the music was the show's trademark. It's what made it recognizable and memorable. Taking away pieces of the complete artwork of this series is simply unacceptable. Worse yet, the theme music is replaced by a very strange mock song that sounds like it belongs on the Teletubbies.Additions include artwork, episode information, recipes, Mayberry tidbits, and Mayberry music videos. They are all nice additions, although I doubt Aunt Bea used Bisquick in her pancakes. The music videos are kind of clever, and I thought the mock MTV logo was funny. Artwork fails to inspire me on a television screen though. If you're an Andy Griffith Show fan, and want to own a bunch of great episodes from the 1963 season, this is for you. If you are a purist this is definitely something you want to stay away from."
Not the complete episodes

"If you are looking for uncut episodes, this is not the video to buy. Even though they have added the last few minutes of the program which is usually cut on TV, bits have been cut out of the middle of the episodes. I was very disappointed."
Whistling...

"It was a great DVD, don't get me wrong here, the only problem is that this isn't really the best of the Andy Griffith show!! It's more like the best of 1963!! All these episodes are from the same season, I bet thats because thats all they could buy, and not to mention the fact that they couldn't buy the rights to the original theme... All in all though, it was nice to watch those episodes, like when you get to meet The Darlings, and the rock-slinging maniac, heh, also the Class Reunion was a nice episode too."
Not really the best "collection" money could buy

"This "collection" of the "best" episodes was okay but there are ones that are far more better. The first thing wrong with this DVD is that all the episodes are the edited episodes that are shown on T.V. and the second thing is that they don't contain the original theme music. However, the picture and sound quality are good."
