I'd forgoten how much I loved this quirky series. Long before Scrubs used its famous fantasy scenes, including J.D.'s habit of staring off into space and imagining a situation in a very cartoonish, silly way, Ally McBeal invented this witty technique, but in a much deeper way. Not just one, but many of the delightfully flawed characters have fantasy moments, from Ally seeing Al Green singing in a court room to John preparing for a date by invoking a Barry White song. It is very funny and surprisingly touching at the same time. And vonda Shepard's beautiful vocals leand a special touch of atmosphere, whatever the episode. The cost of implementing the episodes as is - with all the music intact - would be astronomical just because of the ridiculously expensive song rights they'd have to pay for. So, rather than service the fans, the network is trying to keep its costs down since I'm sure they've done a cost-profit analysis and found it wanting. Which is fine and practical for them, but very, very unpleasant for viewers. Sure, a couple episodes are available... but that only feeds the rage at not being able to watch the WHOLE season. There's this gut feeling that the network doesn't love its viewers much - or at all."
