I had read the book and I had bought the modern tv version starring Rupert Penrys-Jones (which was great). I would not recommend the Robert Donat version of the movie. For at least 35 percent of the movie, the sound is totally out of sync with the lip movements of the actors. I found I couldn't look at the screen because it was too distracting.
